Justice Guerrero began serving on the California Supreme Court in March 2022. She previously served as an appellate justice on the California Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, Division One, from December 2017 to March 2022, and as a trial court judge on the San Diego Superior Court, where she was appointed in June 2013 and where she served as the supervising judge for the family law division.
Justice Guerrero had previously been in private practice at Latham and Watkins LLP where she worked as a partner (from 2007 to 2013) and as an associate (from 2003 to 2006 and from 1997 to 2002). Justice Guerrero also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of California from 2002 to 2003.
Justice Guerrero was born and raised in the Imperial Valley and graduated as co-valedictorian of Imperial High School in 1990. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994, where she graduated magna cum laude and received an award given to the top two students in the Legal Studies major. She received a Juris Doctor degree from Stanford Law School in 1997, where she received an award for legal research and writing.
