Unwarranted: Policing Without Permission
Policing Principles Reporter Barry Friedman’s book, Unwarranted: Policing Without Permission, is now available. The book was recently reviewed by The New York Times.
The review examined two recent books on the subject of policing, calling Professor Friedman’s the “broader and more accessible” option that “looks beyond the lethal use of force at the many other ways the Fourth Amendment protection against ‘unreasonable searches and seizures’ has been ignored or stretched in the name of public safety.”
From the Preface of Unwarranted:
Recent events have made clear that getting policing right is one of the most pressing challenges we face as a society. Whether it is omnipresent surveillance, or the use of force on the streets, or concerns about fairness and discrimination and race, it is now apparent to many people that change is needed. The question is how we get there.
The first section of the Policing Project, which covers the topic of Use of Force, is on this year’s Annual Meeting agenda. Learn more about the Policing Principles project.
