The American Law Institute Council
The Institute is governed by its Council, which determines projects and activities to be undertaken by the ALI and approves the work as representing the position of the Institute. Made up of no fewer than 42 and no more than 65 members, the Council consists of lawyers, judges, and academics, and reflects a broad range of specialties and experiences.
Council members are elected from the Institute membership for terms of five years. The Council ordinarily meets in January and October.
