Pan Nominated to U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia

ALI Member, District of Columbia Superior Court Judge Florence Y. Pan has been nominated to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, by President Obama. The president nominated Judge Pan and fellow District of Columbia Superior Court Judge Todd Edelman.

Judge Pan, joined the local court in 2009. She had spent the previous decade at the U.S. attorney’s office for the District of Columbia, including serving as deputy chief of the Appellate Division.

After getting her law degree from Stanford Law School, she clerked for then-U.S. District Judge Michael Mukasey in New York and Judge Ralph Winter of the Second Circuit. She was a Bristow Fellow in the U.S. Office of the Solicitor General and worked at the U.S. Department of Justice in the Criminal Division and at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Judge Pan serves as an Adviser on ALI’s Project on Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct on Campus: Procedural Frameworks and Analysis and is a member on the Members Consultative Group for Principles of the Law, Police Investigations.
