Judges’ Insight into the Task of Sentencing

March 06, 2020

Members of the judiciary recently shared their thoughts on the challenge of sentencing in an article for The National Law Journal.

The piece, “The Hardest Thing About Being a Judge? What Courts Say About Sentencing,” provides insight into what it’s like to pass judgment on people as a regular part of one’s profession and features quotes from several ALI members including:

Ruben Castillo of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Retired)
Denny Chin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit
Beryl A. Howell of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia
Gerard E. Lynch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit
Theodore A. McKee of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit
Sonia Sotomayor of the U.S. Supreme Court
The late Alicemarie H. Stotler of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California
Jack B. Weinstein of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York (Retired)
