Robert Rucker has been a justice on the Indiana Supreme Court since he was appointed in November 1999. Before that, he served as a judge on the Indiana Court of Appeals. While on the Court of Appeals, he also served as vice-chair of the Indiana Commission for Continuing Legal Education.
His previous experience includes serving as a deputy prosecuting attorney for Lake County, Indiana, as City Attorney for the City of Gary, and practiced general law in East Chicago, Indiana.
Justice Rucker is a Fellow of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation and a past chair of the Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission. He is also the current chair of the National Bar Association's Judicial Council.
