Michael Heavican is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nebraska. Appointed in October 2006, his previous work was exclusively as a state and then federal prosecutor.
He was a Deputy County Attorney and then Chief Deputy County Attorney in Lancaster County. He later served as the Lancaster County Attorney, then became an Assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Nebraska. After 10 years in that position, he was appointed as U.S. Attorney for the District of Nebraska, the position he held until becoming Chief Justice of Nebraska.
His position as chief justice gives him a seat on the Nebraska Judicial Qualifications Commission.
