Harvey Perlman is the Harvey and Susan Perlman Alumni Professor of Law at the University of Nebraska College of Law. He served as Chancellor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2001 to 2016. He has written and taught primarily in the field of torts, unfair competition, and intellectual property. He joined the Nebraska law faculty in 1967 and taught until 1974 when he joined the faculty at the University of Virginia Law School. He returned to Nebraska in 1983 when he accepted the deanship of the Nebraska Law College, a post he held until 1998.
Chancellor Perlman was elected to the ALI in 1976 and was elected to the Council in 1995. He served as a Co-Reporter for the Restatement of the Law Third, Unfair Competition, and he currently serves as an Adviser on the Student Sexual Misconduct: Procedural Framework for Colleges and Universities project. He is also on the Members Consultative Group for the Restatement Third, Torts: Liability for Economic Harm project.
