Legal Practice:
Lawrence G. (Larry) Newman has practiced law for over fifty years. He focuses on business organizations, transactions, and serving as outside general counsel to for-profit and nonprofit enterprises. He provides legal services to entrepreneurs and businesses locally, nationally, and internationally, from starting a business, to drafting complex agreements, to buying and selling companies.
He is the author of Texas Corporation Law (1986 -2019) and The Complete Guide to Nonprofit Corporations (2009-2019). See www.knowlespublishing.com. Has published articles in the Journal of Corporation Law, the Corporate Counsel Review, the Texas Bar Journal, and the University of Chicago Law Review. He co-authored an article on the Sarbanes-Oxley Act which was awarded the Outstanding Journal Article by the Texas Bar Foundation.
Mr. Newman has litigated cases in state and federal courts, including contract disputes, insurance claims, securities litigation, corporation and partnership disputes, employment cases, commercial disputes, and probate matters. He has served as a court-appointed mediator and has successfully mediated cases ranging from personal injury and insurance claims to employment and business disputes. Mr. Newman is also trained in civil collaborative law. He has acted as an expert witness in cases with business and conflict of interest questions.
He started his own firm in 1980 and has an "a.v." (the highest) rating from Martindale Hubbell Law Directory. During law school he worked as Associate Editor of the Law Review. After law school, Mr. Newman served as Law Clerk to Chief Judge Alfred A. Arraj, U.S. District Court, Denver, Colorado (1972-1973).
Mr. Newman is a Member of the American Law Institute, which publishes the Restatement of Laws.

Community Service:
- Mr. Newman served as Chairman of the Dallas Bar Minority Participation Committee, where in 1981 he started and organized the Sarah Hughes Diversity Law Fellowship at the SMU Law School.
- As Chairman of the Dallas Bar Pro Bono Committee he assisted in organizing the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, a partnership for volunteer attorneys between the Dallas Bar Association and Legal Aid of Northwest Texas.
- As Chairman of the Board of Legal Aid of Northwest Texas he helped organize the Dallas Bar’s annual Campaign for Equal Access.
- He has performed in the Dallas Bar’s annual Bar None Show, which has raised more than $2 million for the Sarah Hughes Diversity Law Fellowship.
- He has served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations. He also is an artist and plays in a rock band.
- He served as Adjunct Instructor at UNT-Dallas, where he taught business law and corporation law.
