Valentine
Debra Valentine is a Trustee of the Glimmerglass Festival, on the board of Heartbeat Opera and Chair of the board of the Touchstones Discussion Project. She was the Senior Independent Director of Lamprell plc, a UK listed energy service provider, until Oct. 2022 and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, as well as the ALI. Debra graduated from Princeton University in 1976, had a Fulbright year in Germany and attended Yale Law School, graduating in 1980. She clerked on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, then worked in the Office of Legal Counsel at the DOJ, and in 1985 joined O’Melveny & Myers’ DC office, becoming a partner in 1992. She worked from 1995 to 2002 at the US Federal Trade Commission, primarily serving as General Counsel. She returned to O’Melveny from 2002-04, co-chairing its antitrust practice, and then went to United Technologies for 4 year as an Associate GC and then Deputy GC. In 2008 she moved to London to serve as Rio Tinto plc’s first global General Counsel and from 2009-2016 she was Group Executive for Legal and Regulatory Affairs, which involved overseeing the groups for risk, legal, security, corporate secretary, compliance, external affairs and media at various times.
