Derek P. Langhauser has served as Chief Legal Counsel Maine Governors Janet T. Mills and John R. McKernan, Jr., law clerk to Maine Supreme Judicial Court Justices David A. Nichols and D. Brock Hornby, and Special Counsel to former U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe. He has also been Special Counsel for the Maine Maritime Academy and President and General Counsel of the Maine Community College System. He has taught constitutional law for the University of Maine Law School and law/policy for Williams College. Mr. Langhauser was elected to the ALI in 2003 and the Council in 2009.
