In Memoriam: Eugene B. Strassburger III

Eugene B. Strassburger III passed away on May 17 at age 78. Elected to ALI in 1978, he was as an Adviser to Principles of the Law, Family Dissolution.  

Strassburger served on the Pennsylvania Superior Court for the last 10 years. Prior to that he was a judge on the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas (1978 to 2011) in the Family Court and the Civil Court, including as administrative judge and calendar control judge.  

At age 29, he was one of the youngest attorneys to argue a case before the Supreme Court of the United States. In Pittsburgh Press Company v. Pittsburgh Commission on Human Relations, he argued, and won, that gender-segregated want ads discriminate on the basis of sex.
