M. Margaret McKeown Honored
ALI Council member Judge M. Margaret McKeown of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit was presented with the Robert F. Drinan, S.J., Law Alumni Public Service Award on October 17, 2015, during the law center’s reunion weekend. The award honors a Georgetown Law graduate whose career has been dedicated to enhancing human dignity and advancing justice.
Judge McKeown was appointed to the bench by President Clinton in 1998. She has authored more than 300 precedential opinions and was selected by Chief Justice John Roberts to chair the Judicial Conference of the U.S. Codes of Conduct Committee, the ethics committee for the federal judiciary.
Judge McKeown was the first female partner at Perkins Coie, where she founded the intellectual property practice, litigated antitrust and constitutional law matters, and represented high-profile clients. She is immediate past president of the Federal Judges Association and is currently chair of the ABA rule of law initiative board.
