Brett Busby Elected to Supreme Court of Texas
J. Brett Busby has been appointed to the Supreme Court of Texas. Justice Busby was Gov. Greg Abbott’s second nominee to the high court and his first to require confirmation from the Legislature.
“I have a deep respect for the justices who serve on the Supreme Court and am looking forward to serving alongside them,” Justice Busby said in an interview with The Texas Tribune, “I’m honored that the governor has appointed me to serve and look forward to the confirmation process in the Texas Senate.”
A former U.S. Supreme Court clerk, Justice Busby has served on Houston’s 14th Court of Appeals since 2012. He was chosen from some two dozen applicants who sought the high court post after Justice Phil Johnson retired in December.
