Northwestern Receives $100 Million Gift
Northwestern University School of Law announced last week that it has received a $100 million gift from alumnus Jay Robert Pritzker and Mary Kathryn Pritzker.
ALI Council member Daniel B. Rodriguez of Northwestern Law made the announcement alongside Northwestern President Morton Schapiro.
In his speech, Dean Rodriguez addressed how this donation will affect the University’s curriculum, “this extraordinary gift will help provide the financial foundation for this law school to produce a new breed of highly skilled, adaptive lawyers—creative, constructive problem-solvers armed with multidisciplinary skills and resolutely committed to social justice and the rule of law.”
The donation will support several centers focused on social justice, such as the Center on Wrongful Convictions, the Children and Family Justice Center, the Center on International Human Rights, the Environmental Law Center. Additionally, the donation will contribute to the Master of Science in Law program designed for professionals in the scientific, engineering, and medical fields.
This is not the first gift presented by the Pritzkers. However, according to the University, it is the largest single gift presented to any law school. The law school has been renamed Northwestern Pritzker School of Law.
