Jim Christie is a co-founder and President of Christie & Young PC, and a member of the Board of Directors. His practice focuses on civil litigation, trial practice and appellate work. Mr. Christie has earned a national reputation in the areas of insurance coverage, civil rights, bad faith and professional responsibility. He has been lead counsel in numerous environmental, asbestos and related insurance lawsuits involving parties such as AT&T, Monsanto, Pfizer, W. R. Grace, Merck and many other Fortune 100 companies.
Throughout his distinguished legal career, Mr. Christie has successfully defended physicians, attorneys, accountants, engineers, police and security experts, brokers and other professionals in malpractice litigation, at trial, in arbitrations and via mediation. Mr. Christie has tried over 25 insurance coverage, commercial, professional liability and complex civil matters to verdict in the federal and state courts in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. In addition, he has been involved in trials throughout the United States, including Texas, Massachusetts, Arkansas, and Connecticut. He has also appeared in appellate matters in the state Supreme Courts of Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Arkansas; and the federal Second Circuit Court of Appeals in New York and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Christie has also represented lawyers in legal malpractice and disciplinary claims. In addition, he has been part of a long-standing effort by the Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations to increase awareness on the part of lawyers concerning practical and ethical considerations important to providing the best possible service to the public.
In recognition of his experience and accomplishments, Mr. Christie has been elected to membership in the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, membership in which is limited to one percent of the total lawyer population of the United States and Canada. He has lectured to law firms and county bar associations about risk avoidance, professional ethics, professional responsibility and disciplinary matters. He has served as an expert witness in insurance coverage and professional responsibility matters in order to testify in both the state and federal courts in Pennsylvania. Mr. Christie also counsels law firms and lawyers on questions of professional responsibility, ethics, malpractice avoidance and the law of lawyering.
