Robert Gilson serves on the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, and a law degree from Boston College Law School.

He served as a law clerk to Judge John J. Gibbons of the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He then joined the firm of Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti LLP as an associate in 1986. He was named a partner in the firm in 1994.

In 2006, Judge Gilson left the firm to serve as the director of the Division of Law in the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General. He was appointed to the bench on Oct. 1, 2009. He served first in the family division in the Morris/Sussex Vicinage and moved to the criminal division in 2012. He has served on the Appellate Division since 2015.
