ALI member David A. Murdoch, a partner in the Pittsburgh office of K&L Gates, recently received the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesverdienstkreuz), the highest honor Germany awards to individuals—whether German or foreign—for services to the nation. Dr. Horst Freitag, Consul General of Germany in New York, presented the award during a World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh luncheon.
Germany’s Order of Merit is given for achievements in the political, economic, social, or intellectual realm and for outstanding services to the nation in the field of social, charitable, or philanthropic work. Mr. Murdoch, who chairs the board of directors of the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh and has served as Honorary Consul for the Federal Republic of Germany in Pittsburgh since 2002, was recognized for his work in strengthening German-American relations. He has participated in the Members Consultative Groups for several ALI projects, including Nonprofit Organizations, Transnational Insolvency, and World Trade Law.
